Cadets at St Martins Plain Camp in Kent got a taste of tchoukball this Summer, as Team GB women's player Symone Bromley visited to coach.
Symone, from Sudbury in Suffolk coached the camp of 42 children aged between 13 and 18 years old from 21-28 August.
The cadets were able to spend 1 1/2 hours each night playing sport at the camp, and as well as mainstream sports such as football and rounders, the camp decided to incorporate some tchoukball.
Commenting on the experience, Symone said:
"I taught all the young people for 2 hours or more over the Summer. We covered the all the basic shooting and defending skills and played some games. I was impressed with the ability all round, and some players had suprisingly good movement! All of the players enjoyed learning the new sport and many of them have asked me to go into their schools and do some sessions. Others asked about joining a club."
Gary Bond, Head of Development for Tchoukball UK said:
"It's great that Symone has been able to introduce tchoukball to the cadets. Increasingly, we're seeing young people across the country turn to tchoukball as a great alternative to traditional sports. Tchoukball is ideal to introduce in this kind of group - it's fast, energetic but above all inclusive to all ages and boys and girls can compete equally."
(Tchoukball UK and Symone would like to thank Sudbury Upper School PE department for providing the equipment for the cadets over the Summer.)
